We are pleased to announce that Lupe Samano has been appointed to the university records archivist position. In this position Lupe is transferring a backlog of UCSF Chancellor and Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost administrative records dating back to the 1960s to the UCSF Archives and Special Collections. These records document the history of UCSF’s activities, decisions and policy changes over 50+ years.
Lupe accepted this position after four months of exceptional work as the Richard (Dick) Fine Papers (MSS 2022-02) intern. UCSF physician Richard H. Fine, MD (1940 – 2015) worked at the San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. He served as chief of the adult health center there for 25 years. During his tenure, Fine helped found a primary care residency program to train doctors to work with poor and vulnerable patients. Lupe remarks, “Processing the Richard (Dick) Fine Collection was a fulfilling and multi-educational experience. I learned so much; the history of San Francisco General Hospital, activism in San Francisco, and about the life of late Dr. Fine and his peers… Furthermore, it is amazing to me that one can learn so much about someone through what they have kept and collected throughout their life and/or career, it’s one of my favorite things about archives.”
We are grateful to have Lupe and her love for archives on our Archives and Special Collections team. Please join us in congratulating her on her new role!
