We are pleased to announce the launch of the Journal Open Access Lookup Tool (JOLT), a new service for UC authors to determine if a journal qualifies under one of UC’s open access publishing agreements.
UC’s open access agreements offer financial support to authors for the payment of open access fees. By reducing the amount authors must pay when they choose to publish open access, these agreements help authors share their scholarship more easily and freely with the world.
With JOLT, authors can search more than 10,000 journal titles to find out if a specific journal falls under a UC agreement and the extent of available funding support. Additionally, JOLT search results provide links to an FAQ page outlining the publisher agreement and its payment workflow details.
JOLT was developed through a collaborative, multi-team effort from the California Digital Library.
Which publishers does UCSF have open access agreements with?
As of November 2024, UCSF is part of 15 UC open access publishing agreements that cover up to the full amount of the open access fees. In fact, nearly half of all UC-authored articles are eligible for open access under these agreements.
UCSF-only open access publisher agreements
Four additional UCSF-only open access publisher agreements are not included in JOLT:
- American Physiological Society (full coverage)
- Cold Spring Harbor Lab Press (45% discount)
- MDPI (10% discount)
- The Microbiology Society (full coverage)
The complete list of author agreements UCSF participates in is available on the Discounts and Funding for Open Access Publishing page.
