The Instructional Design Training Hub is an online space developed by the library’s instructional designers to host self-paced instructional design courses that support UCSF faculty and staff in their teaching and learning. Current offerings include University Design for Learning, Backward Design, and HyFlex Teaching and Learning.
In addition to these courses, the hub contains a discussion board called The Faculty Lounge. This discussion board is a virtual space for general discussion and posting questions and comments about the training hub courses.
Universal design for learning
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework that educators can reference to create accessible learning environments for all learners. This course provides an overview of UDL, including the history of its development and examining the means of engagement, representation, action and expression.
Backward design
This course will explain the benefits of incorporating backward design as a model for developing or revising online courses to improve validity, dependability, and clarity. It will elaborate on the three stages that backward design encompasses. The course will also describe the difference between learning outcomes and learning objectives and how to write them when designing or redesigning your courses.
HyFlex teaching and learning
The HyFlex Teaching and Learning self-paced course provides an overview and practical ideas for instructors. Instructors will learn how to create a synchronous, or asynchronous learning environment that offers instruction in-person, online or both.
These three courses are available for self-enrollment within the Instructional Design Training Hub. The instructional design team will be adding more courses to the hub, so be sure to check back!
