Request an Item From Another Library

If an item is not in our collection, we can request it for you from another library through interlibrary loan. It is at the discretion of the owning library whether to loan the item. The request process will vary depending upon your affiliation. The procedure for getting your item will be the same for all requests.

UCSF

UCSF personnel and students with a current Library Borrower Account can request materials.

Make a request

To request a journal article and/or request with a full citation: 

  • Search in the UC Library Search by article title 
  • You may need to click the box in upper left of page to see all results: “Include items available through Interlibrary Loan”
  • If UCSF does not have online access, click “Request Through Interlibrary Loan” option
  • Clear web browser cache if needed

To request a book or book chapter:

  • Search in the UC Library Search by book title
  • You may need to click the box in upper left of page to see all results: “Include items available through Interlibrary Loan”
  • If UCSF does not own the book, click “Request Through Interlibrary Loan” option
  • A physical copy can be requested 
  • A lending library will be unable to send a PDF of an entire book, due to copyright restrictions

If searching databases like PubMed@UCSF, click the Get It At UC button and follow the prompts

DPH at ZSFG

Department of Public Health personnel at ZSFG can request materials.

Make a request

  • Provide a citation as complete as possible. The more information, the more likely we will be able to locate the item for you.
  • Supply your email address @sfdph.org.

Getting your item

Most articles and book chapters are emailed within 4 working days. Most books are received within 4-7 days at the Parnassus Library service desk. Currently, requested books can only be picked up at Parnassus.

Fees

Requests are free of charge for UCSF and DPH at ZSFG personnel and staff.
